--: Nazareth Sisu Bhavan

Location of Sisu Bhavan ::. Sisu Bhavan is located in Paduapuram, Via Karukutty, Ernakulam District, which in the southern most State of India, named Kerala, which is also known as `God’s Own Country, because of its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The Institution is situated approximately 15 kilometers from the Nedumbassary International Airport and about 60 kilometers from the business capital of Kerala, the Cochin( now known as Kochi) City. The name Sisu Bhavan in the local dialect of the State of Kerala, i.e. Malayalam means and signifies `The Home for the Infants’.

Topography, Premises and surroundings ::. Sisu Bhavan is situated in very serene, tranquil, lush green, peaceful, sacrosanct and homely surroundings, in approximately 60 Acres of land, cultivated with all types of tropical plantations and vegetations, with paddy, forming a major part of it, belonging to the Congregation of the Sisters of Nazareth. Sisu Bhavan consist of three blocks, admeasuring approximately over 3000 square feet. The campus within which Sisu Bhavan is situated has a Church, Priest Home, Convent Home, a Modern Hospital, which also includes a Gynaecological and Paediatric Departments, a Counselling Centre, Home for the aged, Home for women in Distress, Home for Older Children named `Bala Bhavan’, Weaving Centre, Diary Farm, a Poultry a Rubber Processing Unit etc., and many other allied activities.

Facilities in Sisu Bhavan ::. Sisu Bhavan has all the modern facilities, to secure a comfortable living for infants in cradles to toddlers till the age of 4 years and also for all its inmates. The Institution has its in house Social worker, Nurses, Advocate, Counsellor, Helpers, persons to do menial work and all such other statutory and additional facilities and requirements. The home can accommodate upto 30 children at a given time, always has a strength of not less than 15 children, always.

Children placed in adoption, from Sisu Bhavan, are strictly in conformity with the Laws, rules and regulations formulated by the Honourable Supreme Court, the Central Adoption Resource Agency, the State Adoption Cell, Social Welfare Department, Trivandrum and all such other Statutory Bodies and Authorities, from time to time, which is in force, within the country.

Ecclesiastical Superintendence ::. Sisu Bhavan is situated within the Ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Arch-diocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly, under the prelateship of His Grace Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil.

About the work, aim and motto of the Congregation of the Sisters of Nazareth ::. Sisu Bhavan is among, one among the illuminating Institutions of the Congregation of the
Sisters of Nazareth, being led from the front, by its Superior General, Rev.Sr.Teracine CSN. The Congregation is a diversified non-profit social welfare registered Society, doing social welfare activities, among other activities, catering to the needs, welfare and interest of the vulnerable, downtrodden, neglected, destitute, old, infirm, sickly, abandoned and economically backward men, women and children, hailing from all walks of life, irrespective of religion, caste, sect or creed, by sheltering them in the various Homes, of the Congregation, situated in different parts of the Country.

The Congregation of Sisters of Nazareth, functions with a definite aim, goal, intent and aspiration to carry out the mission of its founders, to help, protect and accommodate those human beings who are ostracised, rejected, thrown out, outcast, unwanted and frowned by the Society at a large, especially those women in distress, like the ones who conceive out of wedlock. Such vulnerable persons, who easily fall prey to those hardened and unscrupulous criminals, ultimately who find death as the only solution. It is these persons, especially such women, who are specially taken care of by our Congregation, by providing them with food, clothing, shelter, special attention, treatment and rehabilitation methods, including extensive and dedicated Counselling, by our team of specialised social workers.

Evolution of Sisu Bhavan ::. The Institution Sisu Bhavan, (The Home for the Infants) was founded in the year 1948, under the leadership, guidance, pedagogy and Eminence of His Grace Mar Augustine Kandathil, former Bishop of Ernakulam. Rev.Fr. John Pinakkattu and Rev.Fr.Mathew Mankuzhikary, were the founding Directors of the Institution
