Promotional activities, adoptive parents meet if any::.
Adoptive Parents Meeting: Frequent meetings of the adoptive and prospective adoptive parents are conducted by Sisu Bhavan, where the families meet and share their experiences. Medical, Legal, Psycho, Social and all such other ancillary issues are discussed and classes are taken by Experts in the field. Entertainment and other promotional programs are conducted for the children as well as for the parents. The meetings give a rich experience for both the parents and the children, to understand the very concept of adoption, in its right prespective.
Zonal Meeting: Adoption Co-ordinating Agency, the Kerala adoptive Families Organisation (KAFO) and the other Placement Agencies jointly conduct meetings and get-togethers between and among the Adoptive families and all such other persons in the field, regularly. A good number of adoptive families attend such meetings.
Follow up: Regular follow up visits are conducted by the social workers of Sisu Bhavan. The adoptive families are also invited to the agencies and the social worker conducts interviews, counselling and sharing etc., with the families.
Information Counters : Sisu Bhavan conducts public awareness by running public information counters at public places like Railway and Bus Stations, Hospitals etc.
Brochures : Brochures and such other printed materials, including pamphlets, photographs are printed and published, with valuable suggestions, articles, experiences etc., which are distributed to the public free of cost, to inculcate general awareness.
Articles : Articles pertaining to the pros and cons on adoption are published in leading and widely circulated magazines giving promote and encourage adoptions.
Promoting In-country adoption: Sisu Bhavan gives top priority to adoption of children by Indian families. The statistics clearly reveal the said fact.
Records and Reports : Sisu Bhavan ensures that regular progress reports of the children adopted by both Indian and foreign nationals are insisted and received by the Institution. All records are properly maintained, right from the date of inception of the Institution.
Training And Development Initiatives For Staff Development
- Staff and Social workers of Sisu Bhavan, attend all meetings organized by CARA, State Adoption Cell, all such other Statutory and child welfare agencies, and active members in the field.
- All Childcare Helpers (Ayahs) are made to attend training Programs conducted by ACA Kerala.
- The Management and Staff of other placement agencies are visited and experiences are shared. Even visits are conducted to unrecognized child welfare agencies. In association with Probation officers, District Social Welfare Offices, ACA representatives, Placement agency’s representatives, ICWA representatives Adoption awareness programs for unrecognized agencies are conducted.
Other Social & Charitable Activities
- The agency is recognised to maintain women in distress. Short stay facilities are provided for unwed mothers, with proper counseling and socio-economic help is provided to them.
- All basic needs like food, shelter, clothing and care to marginalized women/girls living in difficult circumstances, who are without any social and economic support, are provided by Sisu Bhavan.
- Emotional support and counselling are provided to such women.
- The women/girls are engaged or rather deliberately made to be occupied in tailoring, weaving and agricultural activities etc, to rehabilitate them and get over their mental trauma and pain and also to provide them with an opportunity to increase their skills and also for their personality development through behavioral training etc.
- There is adequate arrangements for providing the inmates with clinical, legal, psychological and other support by linking and networking Sisu Bhavan with other organizations, both Governmental and Non-Governmental basis.
- Separate institutions depending on the age of the inmates are provided, including an Institution named Balabhavan for school going children.
Sisu Bhavan takes care of infants, toddlers and children up to the age of 4 years in the Institution. Sisu Bhavan provides the pre and postnatal confinement period of hapless mothers, with the best possible medical and psychological treatment. After confinement the mother and child are kept together and looked after in the Institutions of the Congregation. After a specified time period, only in case the mother does not desire to have the care and custody of her child, especially in case of illegitimate children, due to the social stigma attached to her such confinement, after counselling her and fully convincing her of all the pros and cons of giving up her baby, she is free to relinquish her child, to the Institution, to secure the paramount welfare and best interest of the child, by resorting to the alternate mode of rehabilitation by giving the child in adoption. It was with this sole noble and magnanimous vision, intention and mission that Sisu Bhavan, was founded and has lived upto the expectation of its Patrons, Founders and Benefactors. The Institution also gets abandoned children, who are entrusted to the Institution by Police, Childline, social workers and locals and individuals.
